My Abstract Compositions series plays off of the use of collage-style techniques, combining elements like gummed paper tape, drywall mesh tape, and other media to form the various geometric compositions. The first set done earlier in the year are a bit looser, with gestural scribbles added as a focal point on all of them. Done on polystyrene, I purposely have left the edges of the pieces rough and skewed in many spots. In a number of examples, gouges and scrape marks add a textured component to the artwork. These pieces have purposely been left unframed and exist almost as sculptural entities when hung on a wall.
The latter half of the series became a bit more rigid, with emphasis given to the rectangular shapes with the circular bullseye forms integrated within them. With somewhat less focus on the textural aspects of the work, those pieces have more of a design quality to them which lent themselves well to being framed and completing a more finished look.
